About Us

Molecular Forecaster Inc. was founded in 2010 by Dr. Eric Therrien and Prof. Nicolas Moitessier as a spin-off from McGill University. In 2016, Dr. Joshua Pottel took over as President. The company has an exclusive agreement with McGill University for the distribution and use of the FORECASTER and VIRTUAL CHEMIST Platforms - including the FITTED docking program, the IMPACTS site of metabolism prediction protocol, and the ACE asymmetric catalysis simulation algorithm.

Molecular Forecaster Inc. is a leading scientific company that distributes the FORECASTER and VIRTUAL CHEMIST platforms and offers contract research services. We are a team of specialized scientists with work experience in medicinal, synthetic, and computational chemistry.

Ultimately, we are experimentalists with expertise in molecular modeling. We leverage our knowledge of chemical principles to solve chemical and biochemical problems virtually; we develop our own high accuracy programs with unique, customizable features.

Management Team

Joshua Pottel, Ph.D.

President

Dr. Pottel is President of Molecular Forecaster. He completed his B.Sc. in chemistry at McGill University in 2011 along with a minor in computer science. Under the supervision of Nicolas Moitessier, he obtained his Ph.D. from McGill, focusing his research on software development in chemo- and bioinformatics. He followed this with postdoctoral research as an NRSA fellow at UCSF with Dr. Brian Shoichet using computational techniques to rationally predict relevant polypharmacology followed by confirmatory in-vitro assays.

In his academic career, he has received provincial and federal prizes from the Quebec, Canadian, and American governments. He has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed publications and is a co-inventor of the VIRTUAL CHEMIST platform.

Nicolas Moitessier, Ph.D.

Vice-President

Dr. Moitessier is Associate Professor at McGill University and co-founder of Molecular Forecaster. He received his undergraduate training and his Ph.D from Université Henri Poincaré-Nancy I (France) under the guidance of Dr. Yves Chapleur (Directeur de Recherche au CNRS) within the Groupe SUCRES (UMR CNRS 7565). In 1998, he moved to Montréal where he joined Prof. Stephen Hanessian group as a post-doctoral fellow. In 2001, he moved back to Nancy to start an academic career (Chargé de Recherche, CNRS) then back to Montréal in 2003 (Assistant Professor, McGill University).

His current interests integrate computational chemistry and organic/medicinal chemistry, spanning from software development to sugar chemistry. In 2008, he received the first Reginald Fessenden Professorship in innovation for the development of the Forecaster platform in drug discovery. In 2009, he was awarded the AstraZeneca Award in Chemistry. He is author of over 70 peer-reviewed publications and co-inventor of 2 patents and 4 reports of invention.
